Wheeling Heart is a project about disabled people in wheelchairs which often evokes feelings of pity, embarrassment, or excessive sympathy. Inna decided to challenge this by photographing disabled people in a style which could make the front cover of a fashion magazine.
At the heart of the project is Inna Zaytseva’s personal story as her mother has been using a wheelchair for the past several years.
The project was made on an analog camera, medium format.
Inna photographed thirty-four people in wheelchairs. 75% of the people were in car accidents and, even more tragically, the large majority were not wearing a seatbelt in the back seat of the car.
