THREATENED
Mankind's greed has wiped out vast expanses of African wilderness and continues to do so there and all over the world. Animals that used to roam freely across the whole of Africa have now been confined mostly to nature reserves. Habitat destruction, climate change, poaching and overhunting has resulted in more than 2600 species of African animals being classified as Threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Covid wreaked havoc on the eco-tourism industry in Africa. This industry is a key contributor to conservation across the continent, but without funds coming from tourism anti-poaching efforts had to be curtailed. Threatened species' populations have been further reduced.
