"Safe Spaces" is a photographic project that explores women and the ever day spaces they consider a safe haven. While the word space suggests a mere location, in this context one can consider the term more abstract. The safe space can be born out of a combination of factors, a place, a time, a feeling.
Women are still exposed to risky situations on a daily basis and the sub- or conscious identification of spaces they feel secure in, remains a crucial process of self-care.
The images are a depiction of ten women and their safe spaces. A deeply personal choice, the women held an active role in the decision-making process. They were not subjects but authors of their own visual story.
