For me Tintype ( a photographic process from the 1860´s ) is a reencounter of a contemporary expression combined with a historical art.
In most sessions, I was under time constraints to portray the fishermen as they were either departing or arriving to work, leaving again minutes after I had captured their image.
However fleeting these encounters, I always felt grateful to them for giving me a moment of their precious breaks. Respite is brief for these men, especially after a tiring day at sea.
Portraying them in their work environment was crucial for this project, granting me access to a truthful essence.
I took the images in Tintype, which requires great care and motionless patience from the sitter, it took me three months to capture “Los pescadores de Palma”.
