What would happen if everyone disappeared from a large city, only leaving one person to explore? What would that person feel when walking around the now-dead city? The project “a colourful world” explores just that, allowing the viewer to enter a world where all that remains is the skeletal structures of the formerly highly populated city of Montreal. The cityscapes are photographed with the goal of putting the initial attention on the beauty of the buildings, which then slowly shifts into noticing the fact that there is one important factor that is missing in this city, the people. The pastel palette throughout the project gives the viewer a sense of welcoming, almost making the photographs feel nostalgic. The initial feeling of the image changes from utopia to an overwhelming sense of emptiness.
