fieu is an exploration of the Waldhaus Vulpera, one of the most prestigious spa hotels in Graubünden, which burnt down to the ground in 1989. The fire was caused by arson but until this day nobody was held accountable. Six weeks prior, Friedrich Dürrenmatt published a novel about the Waldhaus Vulpera called Durcheiandertal, in which a hotel was set on fire by the villagers.
This visual investigation questions whether or not Dürrenmatt’s book had an influence on the arson or if it just was a coincidence. Through three time levels the project investigates the relationship between the real and the fictional.
